Vic: Privatised projects now public again

Projects privatised by the Kennett government now back in public hands:

* December 17, 2002: The Bracks Government announces it will take over operation ofthe V/Line, M>Tram and M>Train services while the public transport system is restructured,following a decision by UK company, National Express, to abandon the Victorian train andtram services it has operated since privatisation in August 1999.

* September 2002: The call centre for Victoria's emergency services, privatised inSeptember 1995, is returned to public ownership after Intergraph surrendered its contract.

The privatisation was at the centre of the Metropolitan Ambulance Service Royal Commission.

* October 2000: La Trobe Regional Hospital returns to public control after the privateoperator negotiated to quit its unprofitable 20-year contract.

* October 2000: The Victorian Government resumes operation of the maximum securityDeer Park women's prison at a cost of $20.2 million after what it says were breaches ofcontract by the private operator.
