1st day of SA tennis rain-soaked

Slovenia's Blaz Kavcic beat the more experienced Thierry Ascione of France 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 on a rain-soaked first day of the SA Tennis Open on Monday.

Meanwhile, France's Stephane Robert lost the first set to American Brendan Evans, but triumphed 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Filip Prpic of Sweden beat Austria's Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-1, 6-3. Fritz Wolmarans from South Africa came from a set down to beat France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Wolmarans fired down 17 aces in the match.
